Technical Debt is the cost incurred when sub optimal design and/or implementation decisions are taken for short-term benefits but have longer term consequences of increased complexity and cost. Technical debt is not bad per se. It reflects the necessary trade-offs made in complex organizations trying to balance multiple priorities. But just like financial debt, it must be properly managed and leveraged. Overtime, technical debt can get out of control.
As Technical Debt is mostly invisible and not easily quantifiable, it tends to be misunderstood or ignored. Pro-Ture practitioners will bring your organization through five levels of maturity.
